73v an excellent spring Ale to clens and
purge the body in þe spring.
take 4 gallons of new Ale ne newly clensed a
pecke of scuruigrase þe stalkes pickt out then
5stampe and strayne out þe Iuce and put it into
þe ale yallow docke Roots on handfull scrapt and
sliced and þe pith taken out a good handfull of thes
herbs following egrimony bittony scabious and water
Cresses bruise all thes together in a stone morter
10then adde therunto 5. ounces of sena 2: sponfulls of
aniseeds bruised 3. races of genger sliced put all into
a bagge and let it hange in þe ale. and after 3. or 4
days drinke therof twice or thrice a day as you
15finde it worke some will drinke it at 7 a clocke in þe
morning and at ten in þe four noone and at 4. in þe
after noone doe this at your own discretion as your scabious
will giue you leaue or your stomacke will beare it
some can drinke as much at twice as other at thrice
20likwise some will add halfe a handfull of saxifrage
sliced and bruised and halfe an ounce of sassprilla
sliced and bruised and put them into þe bagge
amonge þe other things this drinke hath ben much
aproued
