72van excillent receipt for sirop of turnips take a new ston pot þat hath not ben used þat will hold a gallon and a halfe doe not wet it with water then take a pounde of blue figgs and slit them in 5þe midle and lay them in þe bottom of þe pot and 4. ounces of licorish sliced and lay under þe figgs with halfe a pound of reasons of þe son stoned and layd upon þe figgs then take as many turnepp as will fill up þe pot but wash them not only pare them and tye 10make a past of corse meale and couer þe pot close and bake them with brown breade and when they are baked take þe turneps and squise out þe licore betweene too trencher amonge þe rest of þe licore and and then stray þe fi and and þe figg and and other things 15strayn þe figgs and other things and let it stande and setle then take 2. pounde of brown suger candy and boyle it up to /a\ sirope if you haue a good quantity of licore you may put halfe a pound of sugar candy more to it
