An excellent Black Salve for Wounds, Strains or Bruises.

Take of Oyl of Olives one Pint; of Red Lead half a Pound; or Litharge

5of Gold and Litharge of Silver, of eac half an Ounce: Pouder these

very fine, and searce them, and boyl them gently with the Oyl over

a Charcoal Fire till they be of a Purple Colour : Then put in Mastick

and Olibanum, of each half an Ounce and boyl it till it be a

perfect Black, constantly stirring of it from the first to the last.

10Then take it from the Fire, and put into it of Turpentine and

Green Wax broken broken into small Pieces, of each three Ounces,

and one Drachm of Camphir being pounded in a Mortar wherein

first Bitter Almonds have been bruised: continue stirring of it till

it be very thick, and stiff enough to make up into Rolls./
